Promoting women’s rights to and through sport in Zambia, across Africa, and globally.
Our aim is to encourage and promote engagement of women and girls in all areas, levels, and abilities in physical activity, sport, and recreation for fun and excellence.
Our overall goal is that ‘women and girls have access in all areas, levels and abilities in sport, physical activity, and recreation for fun and excellence.’
Formally registered in 2006 following years of organizing women and men to act on gender issues in sport, energized by the 1995 Beijing World Conference on Women and the 1998 IWG World Conference in Namibia.
Pioneered by founder Matilda Mwaba alongside Mutinta Mweembe, David Kailo, Sylvia Chalikosa, Maria Malunga, Carol Chiyassa, and Lombe Mwambwa.
Primarily aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls), while contributing to 7 SDGs overall through life skills, health, financial literacy, and sub-grant models.

Primary focus facilitating access through recreation opportunities and supporting organizations delivering sports to marginalized groups, including girls and women in rural areas and low-income areas.
Targeting male-dominated sports environments through capacity building in catering, auto mechanics, tailoring, and design via Play It Forward (PIF) and Ready to Earn (R2E) programs. Sponsoring young women for FAZ D and CAF C coaching licenses.
Advocating for women in leadership and building capacity in organizations through policies encouraging female leadership aspirations. Delivered workshops for National Olympic Committee of Zambia & National Sports Council of Zambia.
Advocating for equal access to education for girls. Utilizing the Goal curriculum to teach social skills, health, and financial literacy to empower knowledgeable citizens.
Advocacy in local, regional, and international networks for fair representation. Hosting wheelchair basketball events for women with disabilities on International Women’s Day and 6 parent forums across Kabwe, Lusaka, and Chongwe districts.
Strengthening CSOs’ organizational capacity to deliver sports safely. Managing grant partners and delivering gender equity workshops to partner CSOs.
Zero-tolerance to Sexual Harassment and Abuse (SHA). Programs like Every Body Matters and Children Play Free embed child/women safeguarding policies into community-based organizations.
Promoting general physical activity led by community volunteers and staff. Integrating dynamic sports tools under the GOAL program to educate on health topics.
Honouring the vision and decades of dedication of our late Founder (1958 – 2021).
Provides scholarships for formal education (e.g., University of London Matilda Mwaba Scholarship in International Sports Management), professional qualifications, occupational licenses, coaching accreditation, entrepreneurship, and research projects.
An annual event featuring main lectures and panel discussions covering sports management, policy, physical education, history, research, and legislation to raise awareness on women and sport.

Addressing SHA concerns in BUSA and FAZ. NOWSPAR priority: Athlete wellbeing over reputation control. Demanding FAZ implement victim protection, independent investigations, women technical teams, power abuse assessments, and advisory groups.
